So, three days left to go. The plan is for Joe, Ruth, Alex, and I to drive Alex's car to New York on Tuesday evening, through the night, and then we'll stay at Dragana's apartment or Alex's friend Nick's. We will probably walk around a little on Wednesday, through Central Park or whatever, buy a hot dog, get shot. These are my expectations of New York. I've never been there. Then our flight will leave on Wednesday evening. Here is the flight schedule:
1. Depart from JFK at 8:30pm 25 June.
2. We're in the air for nine and a half hours.
3. Arrive in Moscow at 2:00pm (their time) 26 June.
4. Hang out in the airport in Moscow for about seven and a half hours. Probably do a shot of vodka.
5. Depart from Moscow at 9:25pm 26 June.
6. Arrive in Damascus at 12:25am 27 June (their time).
So, the magic number is 7. Whatever time it is in Ohio, I am seven hours in the future. I'll let you know of any impending natural disasters, etc. So when I arrive in Damascus, like, just stumbling off the plane, it'll be 5:25pm on Thursday in Ohio. At this point, do not expect to see an update to this blog until Friday at the very earliest. I'm not dead, the plane didn't crash. We'll probably be sleeping.
One of two good things will happen right when we arrive. Alex's mom's friend نعيم will get us reservations at a hostel, pick us up, and take us there until we figure out where we want to live..
OR
We will get a taxi to Bab Touma where Leo, a guy with whom I took Sanskrit the past year, will find us and take us to his place. He's been in Damascus for a while and can help us get a room or whatever, probably in the house he's living in right now, which apparently has two rooms open for me and Alex to take. Leo is already planning on meeting us at Bab Touma shortly after we arrive.
So that's the plan (the خطة).
